12/09 Selected 4th Place and 7th Place: Ex Arte Equinus III Equine Art Competition Sponsored by Art Horse Magazine,
"Three Paint and the Gnashing of Teeth" has received 4th Place from juror Lesley Humphrey. Her comments about the work are as follows - "I am intrigued by this painting. The title suggests that there is more to this artist's intention than meets the eye, and what meets the eye is an interesting, creative abstraction of the equine landscape, beautifully painted. Many traditional equine painters offer us realistic images of horse head portraits, yet this painting offers us a unique point of view. I considered that is it upon the back of the horse that humanity thrived for thousands of years. It is from this place that man survived, providing the means to flee to safety, an advantage in battle, to till the fields alongside man, or offer up milk and meat when crops failed. A refreshing work of art."
"Horse of the Sun" has placed 7th. Comments for it are "Superb technical ability coupled with the unusual position in the canvas of this fine portrait create a beautiful painting that somehow manages to capture the regal, yet gentle nature of this horse. The artist has managed to infuse the painting with an element of life that draws you into the scene."
